Green Grippers Stops Lawn Mower Wheel Spin

Green Grippers add traction to any mower wheel

Attach a deeper tread pattern for self-propelled lawnmower wheels and help the engine transfer its potential power to the ground

Here’s a breakdown of what these grippers do for your lawnmower:

  1. Stop Lawn Mower Wheel Slipping: This is Green Grippers primary function. Standard plastic lawn mower wheels often have relatively shallow or worn treads. When you encounter wet grass, soft soil, uneven terrain, or just thick grass, even the OEM wheels can lose traction and spin. Stop loosing traction and stop spinning your wheels. The Green Grippers provide a much deeper, more aggressive tread that bites into the ground.

  2. Increase Pulling Power: Your self-propelled mower’s engine powers the drive wheels. If those wheels are slipping, the engine’s power isn’t being efficiently transferred to move the mower forward. By stopping the wheel slipping, the Grippers allow the engine’s power to be fully utilized. This simple solution makes the mower feel like it has more “pulling power” or self-propelling force.

Before You Buy Your Green Grippers
  • Measure your wheels: Know the diameter of your drive wheels (e.g., 7 inches, 8 inches) to ensure you get the correct size attachment.
  • Identify your drive wheels: Make sure you’re attaching the Green Grippers to the wheels that are actually powered by the self-propel system (usually the rear wheels on a walk-behind mower).

Adding Green Gripper attachments will likely make a huge difference in how your self-propelled lawn mower handles, especially in areas where you currently experience wheel spin.

Remember to let off the gas a bit until you get used to how fast your mower will move. Some people are used to pushing the lawn mower and are likely to be surprised at the lawn mower actually pulling them. So we recommend cation until you get used to the mower moving art a more aggressive speed. Yes we know its a good problem!

“Like putting mud tires on my lawnmower”

The Green Gripper is an attachable treaded wheel cover. Its a segmented ring that improves the traction of lawn mowers by attaching them to the lawn mowers wheels. They  come in three solid colors: Safety Orange, Safety Green, and Black. More Info Here

Green Grippers use a unique design featuring rectangular tread. This tread is spaced evenly around its circumference. The .25 inch depth of the treads gives it a gear-like or notched look. These treads stick out from the ring’s circular outer ring base. The ring is open on one side, designed to fit around a 7 to 9 inch lawn mowers drive wheel. The surface has several circular holes for screw attachments, placed in strategic spots. The texture is a matte plastic from PLA 3D+ printing. Although the PLA is somewhat flexible, it generally keeps its rigid circular shape. The 1/2 inch high defined edges help improve traction on grass and other uneven surfaces.

  • Thoughtful Engineering & Durability:
    • The optimal 1×1.5-inch tread design balances aggressive grip with long-term durability, preventing rapid wear and breakage seen in earlier iterations or DIY attempts.
    • The use of fewer screws (7 vs. 14) allows for crucial flexibility, absorbing impact and stress, which extends the lifespan of the PLA material.
    • Precise screw length (1 1/8 inches) ensures they don’t damage the wheel hub, a common risk with improper drilling.
  • Lawn Health & Aesthetics: They provide excellent grip without tearing up the turf during turns or leaving unsightly marks, which was a major flaw of pointier designs. They maintain your desired cutting height by sinking into the grass rather than lifting the mower.
  • Easy & Efficient Installation: With only about 5 minutes per wheel, they offer a quick and straightforward solution, saving users time and frustration.

Low Profile No Lift Design Perfects Deep Gripping
  • Only 1/2 inch increase in lift/height on concrete: This is a crucial point because it means the Grippers don’t significantly alter your mower’s cutting height when operating on hard, flat surfaces. A small increase of 1/2 inch is generally negligible and won’t affect your ability to traverse paths or driveways. It also indicates that the Gripper’s material has some compressibility or that the tread is primarily designed to sink into softer surfaces.

  • No lifting in grass: This is perhaps the most important benefit. The primary concern when adding anything to mower wheels is that it might raise the entire mower, thereby increasing the cutting height. A higher cut than desired can lead to a less manicured look or make it difficult to achieve your preferred lawn height.

    • How it works (inferred): In grass, the aggressive treads of the grippers are designed to sink slightly into the turf to find traction. This means that instead of floating on top and lifting the mower, the grippers embed themselves just enough to provide the necessary grip, effectively maintaining your mower’s set cutting height. This is a sign of a well-engineered traction solution that works with the terrain rather than just sitting on top of it.
